The 2009 Noon Winery Reserve Shiraz is an exceptionally rare and highly collectible release from one of Australia's most respected boutique wineries. Crafted by Drew Noon in extremely limited quantities, this flagship Shiraz represents the pinnacle of the estate's red wine production and showcases the power, concentration, and longevity for which Noon Winery has become renowned.

Produced only in outstanding vintages, Reserve Shiraz is sourced from carefully selected old-vine vineyards in McLaren Vale, where low yields and meticulous vineyard management produce fruit of exceptional intensity and character. The warm and generous 2009 vintage delivered outstanding ripeness and concentration, resulting in a wine of remarkable depth, structure, and ageing potential.

Hand-harvested fruit was fermented in small batches and matured in premium French oak, allowing the wine to develop complexity and structure while preserving its distinctive vineyard character. As with all Noon wines, minimal intervention in the winery ensures purity, authenticity, and a true expression of site.

After more than fifteen years of bottle age, the wine continues to display impressive vitality and depth. The bouquet opens with aromas of fresh blackberry, blueberry, and dark plum, layered with notes of black pepper, liquorice, dried herbs, molasses, spice, and subtle earthiness. With aeration, further nuances of cedar, leather, and savoury complexity emerge.

The palate is rich, full-bodied, and intensely flavoured, showing remarkable extract and concentration. Powerful dark fruit flavours are supported by fresh acidity and a firm tannin framework, providing balance and structure despite the wine's considerable weight. The finish is long, persistent, and deeply satisfying, reflecting the pedigree of both the vineyard and the vintage.

Now drinking beautifully, the 2009 Reserve Shiraz remains a superb example of mature McLaren Vale Shiraz and will continue to reward careful cellaring over the coming decade.

"Very deep in colour. The nose was slightly closed on pouring, opening up after a minute in the glass to reveal lovely fresh, sweet berries and herbs, along with darker molasses and black pepper/spice aromas. The palate displays lots of extract and weight. This is quite a mouthful. The balance is good despite the size, thanks to fresh acidity and a nice tannin framework. Excellent persistence of flavour. Impressive. Share with friends who like big reds."
