2024 Hewitson ‘Madame M’ Blanc & Blanc 750ml

Madame M Blanc & Blanc, a wine inspired by those beautiful light and aromatic whites Dean enjoyed on recent travels to the Mediterranean coasts, typically blends of the local varieties including Muscat Blanc à Petits Grains and Sauvignon Blanc. Muscat Blanc à Petits Grains has been growing in Barossa Valley for 170 years and our Old Fence Line block is about that old. With ever-changing consumer trends in a crowded market place it seemed so much sense to stick to our strengths and make this classic Mediterranean style with lower alcohol, and in a light weight bottle. It ticks all the boxes.

"Bottled in the new lighter containers – expect to see many more of these in coming years. The aim of this wine is to replicate the joy provided by a glass of refreshing vino, while relaxing by the Mediterranean. From the Adelaide region, this is 95% Muscat Blanc à Petits Grains and 5% Sauvignon Blanc. Estimates of the age of the Muscat vines is around 170 years. The wine comes in at a lowish, and more-ish, 11% alcohol. Pale straw, this has those alluring grapey aromas that are typical of good Muscat and this is textbook stuff. Throw in some exotic spicy notes, passionfruit, pineapple, lavender, Turkish Delight and musk. A wine of medium length, there is a clean, fresh finish. "Take a bunch of muscat à petit grains grapes and add just 5% sauvignon blanc and watch – or rather, taste – the impact such a small amount of the herbaceous one can have. The power of sauvignon is matched to the delicate sweet florals of muscat and the result is a wine in perfect tune with Asian food or seafood. The scent is powerfully grassy and herbal with snow pea, honeysuckle florals, green apple and citrus.
